The Technical Details On Shipping

We know that many of our customers want to know exactly how shipping tracking works in
real time . . . and why we emphasize the value of the reference number. So if you’d
like to know more, here are the details . . .
Orders may not be processed to the point of having a tracking number and a reference number until
perhaps four to six hours after receipt during business hours. This is why we cannot promise
that orders received after noon Eastern time will ship the same day (although in practice
our cutoff is usually much later in the afternoon). Incidentally, all our overnight Internet
orders do get processed immediately after we open in the morning.
All our shipments are identified with a tracking number and a reference number. The tracking
number is issued by the courier. We issue the reference number and it is always your last
name plus 5-digit zip code with no spaces.
Even after the tracking number and reference number are issued, they will not appear in the
courier company’s shipping database until the package begins to move--about 7:00 p.m. Eastern
time. This is why when you call us and get a tracking number or enter your automatic reference
number the day we get your order, you will not see your package in the system until sometime
shortly after 7:00 p.m.
When both numbers do enter the system about 7:00 p.m., both numbers access the exact same
tracking data in the courier’s database. Simultaneously, an e-mail is automatically sent to
you (if we have your e-mail address) with your tracking and reference numbers (the latter of
which you already know).
You can then enter your reference number or tracking number and follow your package.
We usually ship multiple prescriptions in the same package. But if you use your reference
number, you will actually see all the packages headed your way if your shipment happens to involve
multiple containers. The tracking number shows only the one package to which it was assigned.
Therefore, getting your tracking number offers no advantage over using your reference number
(which, incidentally, is simpler and easier to remember). The tracking number is designed
for the courier’s accounting. Your reference number is designed for you—to make it easier to
track your packages while eliminating the need to make another call to us to get another
number.
